From the front page of the Iona Journal, Friday, December 7, 1906:

Mrs, Katharina Maria Johlfs died at the home of her son, Reent Johlfs, in Fenton Township, on Thursday morning, November 29, 1906, age 74 years, 11 months, 12 days.Katharina Theilen was born in 1832 at Oldenburg Germany, and resided there until 1892, when she moved to the United States. Her husband died in 1887. She made her home with her son, Reent, and family for fourteen years.Mrs. Johlfs was the mother of eight children, four of whom are living. They are: Reent Johlfs, Henry Johlfs, Mrs. L Steltz, and Mrs. Maria Kasper the later living in Germany. Beside the above, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren mourn her death.

The funeral was held on Saturday morning and the interment was in the Iona Cemetery.
